Sterling Cowboy 1985 Black Overo APHA # 114232 OLWS N/O thru U. C. Davis Fee: $300 Live Cover Shipped Semen Collected at 90% motility May 2005-First cover of the season!
Cowboy is a well built, athletic stallion. Before we bought him he was used as a lead pony on Thoroughbred race tracks. He was also used to rope/herd cattle, give lessons and jumping 3'6". He will also ground tie and knows several tricks: shake his head "yes", count, play lame and bow all for peppermints! He is easy to ride with a big stride, smooth gaits and transitions. We usually just ride him with a bosal for trail rides. With Cowboy's size and athleticism he could easily produce offspring to perform in anything from halter, pleasure or performance.
We have only had Cowboy since November of 2002, so we do not have any experience with his foals. He was bred to our Thoroughbred mare in 2003, but we lost her to colic in July of that year. He did breed an awesome grade Quarter horse, buckskin mare in the spring of 2004. We are anxiously awaiting this foal! According to the Paint Registry he has sired two purebred foals. Both were overo fillies, one was bay the other black. Cowboy is a carrier of Overo Lethal White Syndrome (OLWS). With smart breeding we can avoid producing a lethal foal. Any mare of Overo pattern that is not tested N/N though U. C. Davis will be given a $50 discount on the stud fee to test the mare. If the mare tests N/O, the $250 Stud Fee will be refunded. Breeds that do not normally display the Overo pattern should not have to worry about producing a lethal foal.
